Phoebe Hunter

Phoebe Hunter holds a BA in Visual Arts and a Certificate IV in Fashion Design from the University of South Australia and TAFE SA, respectively. They also have a Diploma in Sustainable Living from UTAS and own founded HunterMade Textiles 2016. Phoebe has been a finalist for several awards, including the Channel 9 South Australian Young Achievers Awards in 2018 for small business and the Northern Beaches Environmental Art Design Prize in 2021. Phoebe is an environmentally minded artist who specialises in botanical dye. Their approach to making is haphazard and semi-abstracted, often reflecting ideas of circularity and impermanence. They have exhibited work at various events across Australia, including Womadelaide Festival. Phoebe has also had solo exhibitions, including Sustain in 2018 and was apart of Earth Poetry in 2022. Additionally, they have collaborated on a re wear Project with Melbourne-based wedding dress label Oarma. Phoebe's works include botanical dye on natural fabrics using plant materials such as Indigofera australis, Gahnia filum, dried Marigold flowers, and Eucalyptus polyanthemos. They also creates natural pigment paints on salvaged wood and offers workshops in botanical dyeing, painting, sculptural floristry, and jewellery making.
