
Matea Gluscevic
Matea Gluscevic is an Artisan Shoemaker. Matea creates handcrafted bespoke footwear with a focus on ethical, slow, and sustainable making practices. Specialising in unique aesthetics paired with fine craftsmanship, creating works of wearable art, small scale collaborations, accomodating larger sizes and gender neutral styles. Her work has been featured on various runways including Australian Fashion Week 2022 - where she designed and handcrafted 21 pairs of shoes for the Nicol & Ford runway at Carriage Works. Other runways include Melbourne Fashion Week 2022, and Melbourne Fashion Festival 2022. Matea was also a recipient of the Guildhouse Catapult Mentorship which she undertook with experienced Adelaide shoemaker, Eugenia Neave. All works are designed and hand crafted by Matea Gluscevic in her studio in Naarm (Melbourne), Victoria. Matea uses mostly local, recycled, end of job and low impact materials such as; cork, kangaroo leather, vegetable tanned leather and recycled rubber. Matea’s work is inspired by nature as well as by materials and processes from a range of different industries. Her interests and motivations are centered around the exploration of self, connectedness to emotion and nature, sincerity, and materials and processes. Matea is a qualified shoemaker, having completed a Cert IV in Custom Made Footwear at TAFE in 2011, and a Bachelor of Visual Art Specialising in Sculpture and Installation at UniSA in 2013.
